Las hambrunas, Amartya Sen y la economía política del alimento
En este trabajo se presenta un debate cuyo interés en las ciencias sociales puede no parecer evidente: las hambrunas como fenómeno persistente en la historia de la humanidad han representado un problema al mismo tiempo angustiante y difícil de analizar. Este artículo muestra brevemente el enfoque de Amartya Sen sobre el tema sosteniendo que éste constituye un intento audaz por reconciliar las hambrunas con el individualismo metodológico. Sin embargo, se explica por qué este planteo resulta un enfoque sesgado que se aleja de lo que se considera la necesidad de encarar una economía política del problema.
This paper summarizes a longstanding debate in social sciences whose local interest might not be immediately evident. Famines have been persistent phenomena in human history, both difficult to bear and to analyze. This short paper presents Amartya Sen’s framework and we sustain that it is a brave attempt to reconcile famines and methodological individualism. However, we show why we consider that this results in a biased approach that prevents another more necessary reframing within political economy of food.
